Course intro:

This Manual Handling Essentials training course is designed to provide the learner with the knowledge of the good working practice in manual handling and also essential rules of general prevention of injuries to ones back when lifting objects.

Assessment:

Learners must successfully complete a multiple-choice written assessment and demonstrate each of the practical lifts required to be certified in Manual Handling.

 

Course learning outcomes

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Perform specific manual handling tasks competently to a recognised standard.
  • Complete essential risk assessment prior to completing manual handling tasks.
  • Identify ergonomic factors associated with their work activities.
  • Assess the risks around manual handling

Who is the course intended for:

All employees who as part of their everyday work are involved in Lifting inanimate objects and where risk assessment has deemed it necessary as outlined by the Health and Safety Authority.

 

Entry requirements

There is no prerequisite to be completed prior to entry. However, a learner should be mature enough to comprehend the knowledge, skills and implications associated with Manual Handling and they will need to declare themselves fit to take part in all the practical assessments performed during the course.

 

Refresher entry requirements

Learners wishing to recertify in Manual Handling should do so every 3 years in line with HSA regulations
